Member Profile ~ Marsha Holliston
Even though Marsha Holliston didn’t exactly understand local currency the first time steering committee member Bruce Bolme approached the Mt. Adams Chamber of Commerce about RiverHOURS, she was still intrigued enough to learn more. Believing in the value of partnerships and the need for this type of currency in the Gorge, Holliston soon sought out a trade partnership with the GLCC. One thing Marsha found is that the GLCCs activities are quite similar to the Chamber’s. The Chamber of Commerce offers its members advertising, community awareness, local business support and economic development. Local currency is just one tool that moves us toward achieving all of these goals. Raised in Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut, Holliston was already accustomed to having many rivers and lakes nearby. However, she was still awed by the mighty Columbia and its nearby mountains, Adams and Hood. In Connecticut, Marsha married a man from White Salmon. He later concluded he wasn’t happy on the east coast and the family packed up to move west. Years later, she is still breathtaken to realize what a beautiful place she lives in. While still learning about RiverHOURS and local currency, Marsha spends her stash at Collage of the Gorge. Pam Morneault’s store is one of her local favorites.
