The idea of a local currency immediately resonated with Scott See. Attributing this to his strong independent streak, Scott saw RiverHOURS as a “forward thinking concept, a great networking opportunity, a super way to keep the money local, and, well, just plain fun.” He happily reports that he’s been correct on all counts.

See’s company, J. Hammock and Associates (JHA) began in 1992. He took a community education class in New York City that suggested a sideline business is imperative for the tax advantages. Born as a résumé writing and distribution service, JHA was not initially successful. However, Scott’s perseverance has evolved JHA into something bearing little resemblance to the original model. JHA now has several business units, including exporting U.S. products to Japan and providing all things to establish and promote your web presence.

J. Hammock represents what Scott aspires to be working from in the Caribbean someday. This is the blessing of laptops, cell phones and conch fritters, all within arms reach. The initial? The first letter of the alphabet that sounded good in front of Hammock. The name is deliberately vague to cover whatever business Scott branches into next. He moved to the Gorge after becoming the Executive Director of the American Windsurfing Industries Association in 1993.

Scott mainly trades RiverHOURS with Small Planet Trading; he built their web site, and they supply his yoga mats and Tibetan prayer flags. Evidently the fair trade chocolate goes great with a nice bourbon too. He has been supportive of the GLCC from the beginning, hosting our web site at no charge. He’s also making a special offer to all GLCC members, providing services at cost from his new business unit, Sideline Business Tax Breaks.
