Member Profile ~ Cathy Steele
Two years ago, a close friend invited Cathy Steele to move to Washington and share the beauty of the Gorge. She accepted, and went on to open Cathy’s Light from Many Lamps craft mall in Stevenson. The craft mall, located next to the Stevenson post office, rents spaces for local arts and crafts vendors to sell their wares on consignment. Accepting RiverHOURS came about after Steele talked to several members of the GLCC steering committee. She liked the fact that they were caring and polite and believes they have been a huge help to her business. She has particular regard for deannab, whose graphic and web design furthers her larger vision of building a Christian academy and church in California. During her recent years in Lompoc, California (a long way from picking cotton and chiles with her family as a child in Las Cruces, New Mexico), she had a vision to bring the academy to life, and has spent years working to raise the funds needed to fulfill her vision. Devout in her beliefs, Steele writes poems “inspired by the Prince of Peace” and hosted a scripture program on community access television in Lompoc. Her other passion, designing silk floral and lighting decorations for store fronts, homes and business can only be seen to be believed. The elaborate “fantasy worlds” she creates will make any occasion even more special. When you visit her store, be sure to check out the portfolio on the front counter.
